Straight answers
Questions people actually ask.
If yours isn’t on here, text it to me and you’ll get a straight answer back, usually the same day.
The offer
Why would you build it before I pay?
Because you shouldn’t have to pay for a website you haven’t seen. Most designers want a contract signed and a deposit in hand before you get to look at anything, and then you’re just hoping it turns out alright.
If you like what I build, you pay the price we agreed before I started. If you don’t, you owe nothing and I won’t keep calling you.
What happens if I don’t want it?
Nothing happens. You don’t owe me anything, you don’t have to explain why, and I won’t pester you about it.
What if I already have a website?
Then I’ll rebuild it, same deal. Most of the sites I look at aren’t bad, they’re just old. Slow on a phone, hours that haven’t been right in years. I do the work first and you compare the two.
Can I see examples of your work?
There are three sample sites on the Work page: a barbershop, a bakery, and a heating and air company. The businesses are made up, but the sites are real and finished, so click through them on your phone and see how they behave.
The best example is the one I build for you, and you get to see that one before you pay anything.
Cost & changes
How much does it cost?
Two numbers: one to build it, and an optional monthly for hosting, backups and changes. The build price depends on the size of the job, because a one-page site for a one-van operation isn’t the same work as ten pages with galleries and online booking.
You hear both numbers in our first conversation, before I’ve built anything, and the build price doesn’t move after that.
Am I locked into a monthly contract?
No. The build is a one-time fee. The monthly plan after that is optional, and you can take it, skip it, or stop it whenever you like. Stopping it doesn’t cost you the site.
What if I need changes later?
Text me. New hours, a new photo, a price that went up, closed for the holidays: that’s what the monthly plan covers, and there’s no charge per change. Bigger jobs, like a new page or a booking system, get quoted before I start.
You shouldn’t have to learn software to change your own hours.
Ownership & the domain
Do I actually own it?
Yes. The domain is registered in your name, and once the build fee is paid the site is yours. If you stop the monthly plan, or you just want to take it to somebody else, I hand the whole thing over: files, domain, all of it. I don’t hold anything hostage.
Who handles the domain and the hosting?
I do, and that’s the point. The domain is registered in your name, because it’s your business and it should have your name on it. But it sits in an account I look after, so you never deal with renewals, settings or a second bill, and there’s no password for you to keep track of.
If you ever want it moved over to you, or handed to somebody else, say the word and I’ll start the move. Registrars have their own rules, so it can take a few days.
The build
How long does it take?
Usually under a week from our first conversation to a link you can open. Longer if photos need taking, or if you want a lot of pages.
What do you need from me?
Ten minutes on the phone to start: what the business does, who your customers are, and what the site needs to say. After that, your logo and any photos you have. If you don’t have photos, tell me and we’ll work something out.
Will it show up on Google?
Your site gets built so Google can read it properly. Business name, what you do, where you are, your hours, your number, all in the places Google looks for them.
Nobody can honestly promise you the top spot, and I won’t. But being quick, clear and correct about the basics is where it starts.
Get in touch
Still got a question?
Text it to me. If it’s a good one, it’ll end up on this page.
Texting works best. You’ll normally hear back the same day.
